New York Times bestselling co-writers of the very sexy Perfect Gentleman series Shayla Black and Lexi Blake are big fans of wine, and they often mention in interviews that they have brainstormed some of their best ideas together over wine. Given that books and wine happen to be two of our favorite things, we at XOXOAD asked these two lovely ladies to tell us about some of their favorite book-and-wine pairings. Look for their newest book, Seduction in Session, out now!
Wine plays an important role in everything we do. We plot, relax, and celebrate with it. We live life with wine. So what better way to talk about our latest releases and favorite books than to pair each of them with a fantastic wine? If you’re looking for a good wine with a good read, here are five suggestions!
Together, we write the Perfect Gentlemen series. Full of sexy, fast-paced intrigue, this series is best read with a wine that’s zesty, lively, and fresh with a bright finish—just like the books themselves. So we would pair Scandal Never Sleeps and Seduction in Session with the wine to which we dedicated the series, Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc.
When Mystery Mullins decides to seduce Axel Dillon, the one man she’d always wanted, she disguises herself and sidles up next to him, looking for vino fortification. The bartender offers her “white, pink or red.” What Mystery really wants—and I’d pair Wicked for You with—is an intense and tangy yet elegant Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio.
One of my comfort reads, something that always makes me smile (and cry) is J.R. Ward’s Lover Awakened. It’s rich, deep, full-bodied and ultimately sweet, so I’d pair it with chocolate wine. Liquid dessert in one hand and a luscious adventure in the other!
At swanky restaurant Top, Eric Vail is the sous chef and romance seems to be the nightly special. I would pair Just One Taste, the latest in the Topped series with a 2013 Ladera Cabernet Sauvignon. With its rich textures and bold flavor, it pairs perfectly with both Eric’s famous braised brisket and his spicy romance with waitress, Deena Holmes.
When I get down, I always turn to the amazing Jayne Ann Krentz to bring me back up. My favorite vintage of hers? A book called Trust Me. It features the unflappable Desdemona who brings out the heretofore undiscovered romantic tones of genius Sam Stark. Their romance is fun and bubbly as the champagne Desdemona serves at the weddings she caters. Try this one with a bright and shiny Prosecco.
